DRAKE UNIVERSITY STUDENT WINS $10,000 LOTTERY PRIZE

DES MOINES, Iowa – A Drake University student no longer has to worry about paying for his art supplies.
James Hamilton III, 24, won the top prize of $10,000 playing the "$35 Million Cash Spectacular" instant-scratch game.
"It had a little wildcard star on it that said 10 thou' on it," said Hamilton.
Hamilton bought his winning ticket Sunday at Hy-Vee, 1725 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines.
Hamilton scratched his ticket standing in the store, but did not stay to have it validated. He was alone when he scratched it and called his parents right after discovering the win.
"They were pretty thrilled! They were surprised; I'm not a big gambler," said Hamilton.
Hamilton claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines.
To keep the ticket safe until claiming it, Hamilton locked it in the glove compartment of his car.
Hamilton, who is from Des Moines, said he originally thought about spending the money on a trip to Florida, but has since decided otherwise.
"I think I'll probably spend it on art supplies for Drake. I'm studying graphic design right now," he said.
Hamilton is currently a full-time student at Drake University and works part time for his father's law firm.
The $35 Million Cash Spectacular is a $10 game. Players who match any of "their numbers" to any "winning number" on their ticket win the prize shown for that play area. If they find a "star" symbol, they win the prize shown instantly. The overall odds of winning in the game are about 1 in 3.
The $35 Million Cash Spectacular began with more than 1.4 million prizes available. Four top prizes of $250,000 are still up for grabs in the game along with 13 prizes of $20,000, 28 prizes of $10,000 and several thousand prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000.
